MaxShred Invests $100 for every staff Athlete for Special Kids

Thomas Bruff Jr., owner of MaxShred, committed to invest $100 for each Special Kids staff member training with Team ASK (Athletes for Special Kids). Thirteen of Special Kids staff members have committed to training in honor of the children they serve.
The Athletes for Special Kids is a continually growing endurance training program to train individuals in the community for an athletic event. This year there are teams training for the Country Music Marathon, The Mach Tenn Triathlon, The Middle Half Marathon, The H.O.T. 100 Bike event, The Middle Half Marathon and the Disney Marathon Weekend. The team members commit to help raise funds for Special Kids in return for receiving exceptional training for their endurance event. Each athlete is partnered with a child receiving services at Special Kids.
“Athletes for Special Kids is all about touching people’s lives,” states Rick Canada, Head Coach of Team ASK. “It a blessing that Max Shred would use their resources to support the kids in such a unique way.”
MaxShred is a locally owned and operated company that provides first class onsite document shredding services throughout Middle Tennessee. Bruff desires to help Special Kids in many different ways and he thought sponsoring the Athletes for Special Kids team through the staff members would be unique.
“At Max Shred we realize how important the programs at Special Kids are,” says Bruff. “The staff and children work against many challenges each day and I admire their efforts each day to provide the best quality of life for the children they serve. We just wanted to help in any way we could. We hope to continue to help in the future.”
Murfreesboro Optical Dispensary Supports Special Kids
Abby shows her art picture of a zebra with Michelle McGaughy, Speech Pathologist at Special Kids and Steve Cary, owner of Murfreesboro Optical.
Steve Cary owner of Murfreesboro Optical visited the children at Special Kids this Friday. Murfreesboro Optical Dispensary has been a Heritage Partner with Special Kids since 2005 and they always help out in the Golf Classic and Annual Banquet. They give what they can and without businesses like Murfreesboro Optical, Special Kids would not be able to serve as many children in our community.
“Special Kids is doing something that needs to be done in our community but that most others don’t want to do,” states Cary. “There is a need to support these families and we are just doing what we can to help; it’s as simple as that.”
Murfreesboro Optical Dispensary has been a part of the Murfreesboro community since 1968. Steve Cary began working there in 1979 and in 2004, he took over ownership of the eyeglass dispensary. They began supporting Special Kids soon after. Cary explains that when his daughter, Anna, was born he realized how blessed he was to have a healthy child and wanted to help families that were not so fortunate.
“We were told because of our older age that our child would never do well or develop properly,” begins Cary. “But we have been blessed to see her do so well and we want to help those families that are not so fortunate and could use some help.”
Being active in the healthcare community, Cary is very aware of how insurance can often fall short to the actual cost of therapy needed. Many families served at Special Kids are receiving therapy services even though their insurance may not cover the costs. It is through the help of community supporters like, Murfreesboro Optical Dispensary that Special Kids is able to continue serving these children regardless of the cost.
Having a Good Ole Time at Special Kids

Who ever knew getting off the bus from School and entering Special Kids could be a learning opportunity. With the notebooks of cards for this young man, one of our Skilled Nursing staff, Stephanie, helps him learn to say "come in".

Did you know that shaving cream could be a part of therapy?

Pippen is really starting to feel at home with the kids. He has been a great addition to the group. We are going to miss having him and his owner Jessica around to help out. They have been an awesome help to Special Kids.
We are so blessed to be a part of the amazing families we serve. We are also extremly excited when a little one does something new. Read this letter to find out what is new at Special Kids. Click Here.
