Special Kids Nursing Center Update.

At Special Kids, our mission has always been to serve children and families with excellence and compassion. As part of that commitment, we have temporarily paused our Nursing Center operations to thoughtfully reassess, rebuild, and prepare for a stronger reopening.

Our Board of Directors and leadership team are dedicated to ensuring the Nursing Center continues to meet the highest standards of care and sustainability. We are actively working toward reopening in 2026 and look forward to sharing updates as plans progress.

Thank you for your continued prayers, trust, and support as we take this important step toward a bright future for the children and families we serve.

Special Kids is a certified Comprehensive Outpatient Rehabilitation Facility (CORF) provider through the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.

Prescribed Pediatric Skilled Nursing Services

Our Pediatric Skilled Nursing Serives provide skilled care for medically fragile children, from 6 weeks through 21 years old. Our Nursing Program operates under the guidance of a pediatric Medical Director who is familiar with each child’s unique needs and diagnoses. A physician’s order is required to begin skilled nursing services.

Ages 6 weeks through 21 Years

Our Prescribed Pediatric Skilled Nursing (PPSN) program provides compassionate, expert care for medically fragile children ages 6 weeks through 21 years.

Under the care of our Medical Director and skilled nursing team, children receive weekday support in a safe, loving environment tailored to their medical needs. Physician orders are required, and qualifying diagnoses include cerebral palsy, brain injuries, heart defects, seizure disorders, and genetic conditions.

Our Nursing Center offers more than home health or school-based care—children benefit from social interaction, low nurse-to-child ratios, emergency preparedness, and access to therapies like physical, occupational, speech, and feeding. This coordinated care promotes both medical stability and developmental progress.

Families find peace of mind and greater consistency in their routines, while children reach life-changing milestones, like first steps, first words, and feeding tube independence, through our faith-driven, multidisciplinary approach.

What specialized services does Special Kids provide for my child?

Special Kids provides outpatient skilled nursing care for children and youth who are medically-fragile.
We provide a safe environment in which the child’s medical and therapeutic needs are met.

Each child also receives outpatient physical, occupational, speech and feeding therapy services, when needed.
If a child qualifies for home health skilled nursing care, they are likely qualified for the Special Kids’ program.

What is your child/staff ratio?

Our maximum is 6 children per RN, but it varies depending on acuity level and attendance. In addition to nurses, each group also has a CNA.

How does my child get started?

Becoming a SK patient: Parents/guardians can call and speak with Lead Nurse to get more information and determine if patient will qualify for services. From there they can schedule a tour of the facility. If they decide to move forward, we set an Intake date. If we receive a referral from a provider, we call parents and complete the same steps.

How long will it take to start services: Our intake process takes about 1-2 months to complete. It is also dependent on openings and staffing.

How long will my child need to come to Special Kids: Nursing is open from 7:30 to 5:00 Monday through Thursday. Parents can choose to enroll their child full-time or part-time based on their needs.

How long will therapy appointment last: Drop off is between 7:30 and 9:00. Pick up is between 3:30 and 5:00.
